Nagpur, Maharashtra - The Maharashtra government has approved a grant of Rs 50 lakh for the modernisation of 308 madarasas in the State.
Under 'Dr. Zakir Hussain Madarasa Modernisation Scheme, this grant will be given to madarasas in 21 Districts of the State. The in this regard has been announced through an ordinance. These funds are being distributed in the name of all-around development of minorities, but it has angered the Hindu community.
Maximum madarasas to be 'modernised' in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
According to the data announced by the government, the maximum number of 103 madarasas in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District will receive a grant of Rs 16 lakh 72 thousand. Following this, 57 madrasas in Nagpur will be given Rs 9 lakh 25 thousand, while 38 madarasas in Thane District will be given Rs 6 lakh 16 thousand. Along with this, madarasas in 21 Districts, like 12 in Mumbai city, 12 in Mumbai suburbs, 3 in Jalgaon, 3 in Kolhapur, 4 in Solapur, 5 in Satara, 6 in Latur, 20 in Beed, 13 in Jalna, 11 in Yavatmal, 7 in Gadchiroli, are included in the beneficiary list.
Funds given to include other subjects in addition to religious education
Through this scheme, not only religious education will be imparted in madarasas, but also science, mathematics, sociology, Hindi, Marathi and English will be taught, and scholarships will also be given to students pursuing higher education. The government argues that this will increase the quality of students in madarasas and also provide employment opportunities. All these funds will be distributed to the madarasas by the concerned District Collectors.
