The administration machinery eroded by corruption
Mumbai - The Mumbai Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught red-handed Mantralaya section officer Vilas Lad accepting a bribe of Rs 6,37,500 at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.
He had demanded the bribe to approve pending developmental funds for the Rural Development Department. This amount is more than the annual salary of an ordinary person.
Lad's arrest now opens the possibility of a thorough investigation into other suspicious activities in the Economic, Planning, and Rural Development Departments.
Editorial Perspective The image of the entire administration is tarnished by such corrupt officers. Arrest alone is not enough; they should be sentenced to life imprisonment and all their wealth confiscated. |
