1,000 Police personnel deployed
Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) - In the early hours of 2 June, the administration demolished the 'Ajgaib Shaheed Mosque' using bulldozers.
Five bulldozers razed the 42-foot-high structure in just 22 minutes. The entire debris was also removed during the night and loaded into trucks. More than 1,000 Police personnel were deployed during the operation. While claims were made that the mosque was 200 years old, residents have stated that it was constructed only within the past few decades.
According to the administration, the mosque had been built on railway land. The matter was taken to court, which ruled in favour of the Railways. The Railways subsequently issued three notices directing that the land be vacated; however, the land was not vacated. The demolition was then carried out. (This demonstrates who does not comply with the law in the country. Expelling such people from India now appears to be the only permanent solution! - Editor)
The action was taken as part of the expansion of Kashi Railway Station. (Does this mean that if the expansion project had not been undertaken, the unauthorised mosque would have been allowed to remain? This situation must be regarded as a result of administrative negligence! - Editor)
