Nagpur - The Police Commissioner of Nagpur has suspended 3 police officers and 6 staff members for dereliction of duty and submitting a false and misleading report regarding a cybercrime to their superiors.
The police inspectors have been identified as Yogesh Ghare, Baliram Sutar, and Vijay Rane.
1. A special team led by Assistant Police Inspector Vijay Rane traveled to Pune and Mumbai to investigate a case involving a 500-rupee fraud through an online betting app in Nagpur.
2. In Pune, the team met the suspect, Ekansh Jain, and served him a notice; however, upon returning to Nagpur, the team submitted a false report to their superiors stating that the 'accused was not found.' There were also rumors that a large sum of money was extorted from the accused under the pretext of investigation.
3. The aforementioned incident came to light after Assistant Police Inspector Vijay Rane assaulted Cyber Cell Police Constable Prafulla Thakre.
4. Following this incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Cyber Cell has been transferred, and IPS officer Deepak Agrawal has been given additional charge of the Economic Offences Wing along with the Cyber Division. Agrawal stated that his priority is to "take strict action against cybercriminals and ensure justice for victimized citizens."
