Shillong, May 25: Army Public School (APS), Happy Valley delivered a commanding performance to complete a hat-trick of titles at the Eastern Command Cluster Level Inter-APS Football Championship, emerging victorious in the Boys Under-17, Girls Under-17 and Boys Under-15 categories.
The three-day tournament, held from May 22 to 24 at the Manekshaw Football Ground in 58 GTC, Happy Valley, featured participation from APS Dinjan, APS Rangapahar and APS Tenga Valley.APS Happy Valley showcased remarkable consistency, grit and fighting spirit throughout the competition, overcoming stiff opposition in a series of fiercely contested matches to dominate the championship.The most thrilling contest of the tournament came in the Boys Under-17 final, where APS Happy Valley defeated APS Dinjan in a dramatic tie-breaker following a pulsating encounter.
The match ended 4-4 after regulation time and extra time, forcing the game into penalties.Goalkeeper Lunminlal Haolai proved to be the difference-maker for APS Happy Valley, producing three vital saves in the shootout to steer his side to a memorable victory.
Chairman of APS Happy Valley, Brigadier Joe Sabby, congratulated all participating teams for displaying exemplary sportsmanship, resilience and determination during the championship.
Interacting with the players, Brigadier Sabby highlighted the importance of sports in the holistic development of students and encouraged them to embrace the values of teamwork and a "never say die" attitude, especially in difficult situations.Following the triumph, the winning APS Happy Valley teams have qualified to represent the Eastern Command cluster in the forthcoming Command-level competitions.
