JOWAI, April 5: The annual Chad Sukra festival, organised by the Seiñ Raij Jowai (SRJ) through its Arts and Culture Committee, concluded on Friday.
Observed every April before the sowing season, the festival is a traditional offering of prayers to Mother Nature for a bountiful harvest.
The two-day celebration commenced on Saturday evening with a series of folk dances and dramas. On Sunday morning, the programme continued at Madan Ryngkaw, where Cabinet Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Wailadmiki Shylla, attended as the chief guest.
The concluding evening session was held at Iawmusiang, with Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present included SRJ President Hercules Toi, Doloi Elaka Jowai Puramon Kynjing, and Arts and Culture Committee member Arwat.
Cultural performances were presented by various localities and groups, including WWO SR-Jowai, Chillingraij, Tpep-Pale, Panaliar, Dulong, Iongpiah, Loomkyrwiang, and Umchangiar. Highlights included the Chad Laho by the SRJ Arts & Culture wing and a Yak dance by a visiting troupe from Sikkim. Other participating units included Sein Tylli Lang, Seinraij Ummulong, and Seinraij Shillong.
