Glasgow, July 30: England kept their Commonwealth Games netball semi-final hopes alive in emphatic fashion, thrashing Tonga 94-32 in Pool A to register the highest score ever by a team in the history of the competition.
Needing a big victory to strengthen their chances of finishing in the top two, England dominated from the outset, opening up a commanding 27-8 lead after the first quarter before maintaining complete control throughout the contest at the Hydro.
The 2018 champions surpassed their previous Commonwealth Games record of 89 goals in a single match, set against Sri Lanka in 2002, while significantly improving both their goal average and goal difference ahead of the decisive final round of group fixtures.
On the other hand, goal shooter Eleanor Cardwell starred with 54 goals from 60 attempts, while Sasha Glasgow and Ella Clark added 18 and 12 goals respectively. (AP)
