In a column for Sportstar, Gavaskar said the constant demands of international and franchise cricket were putting excessive pressure on Indian cricketers."Indian cricketers are neither machines nor sugarcane to be endlessly squeezed for every drop of the juice," Gavaskar wrote, calling for greater attention to player workload as discussions begin on the international calendar from 2027.The batting great also warned that the relentless focus on international cricket was coming at the expense of domestic red-ball cricket. He stressed that a strong India team could only emerge from a healthy domestic structure.Gavaskar argued that the Ranji Trophy and first-class cricket must remain central to Indian cricket, pointing out that most members of the current national teams had developed through red-ball cricket.He also called for the revival of the BCCI's Technical and Fixtures Committees, with experienced former players, umpires and administrators involved in decisions concerning scheduling and the wider cricketing structure.According to Gavaskar, such a system could help restore balance to an ecosystem increasingly dominated by an overcrowded calendar and the demands of international cricket.
