HNYF accuses Assam of erecting building in Meghalaya territory
NONGPOH, Dec 2: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) Northern Region has accused Assam State Transport Corporation of constructing a building, under the aegis of Assam government, at Khanapara, which falls under the jurisdiction of Meghalaya.
The HNYF levelled the allegation after conducting an inspection, which was led by its president, Marcus Marten, on Wednesday.
The pressure group also pinned the blame on Meghalaya Government for shutting its eyes to the repeated complaints of encroachment, thereby encouraging the neighbouring state to continue intruding into the territory of Meghalaya. Expressing concern over the situation, Marten said that the erstwhile governments including the present one are not serious enough to iron out the border issues, due to which the border-dwellers have to bear the brunt.
He said a letter will soon be shot off to the district administrations of Ri Bhoi and Kamrup, seeking a stop on the construction work at once.
Marten has, meanwhile, urged the state government to resolve the decades-long boundary dispute with Assam.
