Ampati, Aug 1: South West Garo Hills (SWGH) athlete Pormeet Hajong has become the first athlete from Meghalaya to compete in a HYROX race, one of the world's fastest-growing fitness competitions that combines endurance running with functional strength challenges.

HYROX is a standardised indoor fitness race where participants complete 8 km of running interspersed with eight functional workout stations, testing endurance, strength, stamina and mental resilience under a uniform format followed worldwide. The competition features three categories-Singles (Open and Pro), Doubles and Relay.
Singles competitors complete the entire race individually, while Doubles and Relay participants share the workload.
Pormeet's participation marks a milestone for Meghalaya's fitness community and is expected to inspire more athletes from the state to take up competitive functional fitness and compete on national and international stages.
His achievement also reflects the growing popularity of endurance-based fitness sports in the region.
