GUWAHATI, Aug 28: The candidature application process of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) concluded on Friday amid heightened political activity surrounding the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency by-election.
Initiated on August 24 under the direction of APCC president and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, altogether five leaders collected and submitted application forms for the party ticket up to the final day.
The leaders who have applied for candidature from the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat are former MLA Sibamoni Bora, former MLA Durlav Chamua, Ranjit Barman, Maidul Islam Khan and Imdad Hussain.
Along with the application form available at the Pradesh Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, all applicants submitted a non-refundable demand draft of Rs one lakh in favour of the 'Assam Pradesh Congress Committee' and a certified copy of the electoral roll bearing their names to the party's treasurer.
In addition to submitting the original application form at the Pradesh Congress office, the applicants must also submit copies of the application and demand draft to the presidents of the District Congress Committees (DCC) and Block Congress Committees (BCC) under the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency.
