Windhoek, Aug 29: Namibia continued their remarkable rise in international cricket by defeating South Africa for the second time in less than a year, securing an 18-run victory in the opening match of the T20I tri-series in Windhoek.
After posting 163/9, Namibia's bowlers restricted the Proteas to 145/9 despite a valiant 75 from Dewald Brevis.
The result further strengthens Namibia's reputation as one of the most dangerous associate sides in world cricket.
Their first victory over South Africa came in October 2025, when Namibia chased down 135 to win by four wickets. It was the first time an associate nation had defeated the Proteas in a T20I.Namibia had already produced another famous upset at the 2022 T20 World Cup, defeating Sri Lanka by 55 runs after bowling them out for 108.The latest victory, however, carries added significance as Namibia successfully defended a total against a South African side that included several established players.Captain Gerhard Erasmus believes the back-to-back victories demonstrate that Namibia can consistently compete with top teams rather than producing occasional surprises.
