SHILLONG, Aug 29: After weeks of unrest, Shillong is returning to normalcy with a visible increase in public movement across the city. Police Bazar, the city's commercial hub, has seen a steady rise in footfall as shops and restaurants continue to operate during regular hours.
While hotel bookings remain low, tourism is showing signs of recovery, with visitors from Assam and other regions spotted in the city. Industry stakeholders expect booking numbers to improve shortly.
The security presence in the city has been reduced significantly. The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been withdrawn as residents resume their daily activities.
The Meghalaya government has reiterated that the state is safe for tourists, noting that several measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of all visitors.
