Ri-Bhoi (Meghalaya), April 10: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) proudly announces a significant academic achievement by Dr. Yugal Kishore Mohanta, Assistant Professor from the Department of Applied Biology and Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Senior Collaborator, who has contributed to a major global research publication in the prestigious The Lancet Infectious Diseases (Impact Factor: 31).

The research paper, titled "Global burden of lower respiratory infections and aetiologies,
1990-2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023," represents
one of the most comprehensive global assessments of lower respiratory infections to date. according to a USTM Press release.

The study provides an extensive evaluation of the prevalence, causative factors, and long-
term trends of lower respiratory infections over a span of more than three decades, one of the
leading causes of mortality worldwide.

supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
