IIT Madras hosts 6th Inter-IIT Tech Meet 2018; Students of 19 IITs come up with technological solutions to pressing problems in various fields
Chennai, 06 January 2018: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is hosting the 6th edition of the annual Inter-IIT Tech meet on 6th and 7th January 2018. Students of 19 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are taking part in this Inter-IIT Tech Meet.
The meet provides an extraordinary opportunity for the students of IITs across the country to assemble at a single place and compete as well as collaborate. Over the past five years, the Inter IIT Tech Meet has seen brilliant solutions to problem statements.
Dr. T Ramasami, Former Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), inaugurated the Inter-IIT Tech Meet in the presence of Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras, and Dr. B Praveen Kumar from Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), DRDO.
This year, with 'Impact Generation' being one of the main goals of the Meet, IIT Madras has collaborated with various industry and government organizations.
They include Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Honeywell International Inc, Tata Consultancy Services and Cochin Shipyard Ltd.
The objective was to come up with solutions to problem statements that were given to them by these organizations. The problem statements range from technology for supporting the Armed Forces, where participating teams are expected to create cutting-edge devices to aid soldiers on the field; to Safety Device for Fishing Vessels which forewarns small ships when large vessels are in the vicinity and an automated toilet-cleaning robot, to mention some. These problem statements are based on real-life situations in the industry and the solutions presented in the meet shall be incorporated by the partners.
In an attempt to promote collaboration and knowledge transfer between the student communities of various IITs, the "Engineer's Conclave" was held for the first time at this edition of the Inter-IIT Tech Meet. The event consists of various IITs presenting their best projects such as Pratham - Student Satellite Project by IIT Bombay, Artemis- Railway Track Crack Detection Bot by IIT Madras and Flex Sensor controlled wheelchair by IIT Patna.
For the first time, the entire tech meet, the projects and solutions proposed have been documented and made available online as a "Big Book", to facilitate future collaboration.
It would be made public and accessible to everyone.
