Donald Trump Accuses Pakistan Of Being Safe Haven Of Terrorists In First Tweet Of 2018

Ranabir Bhattacharyya

Pakistan has got a diplomatic jerk on the very first day of the year and that has come from none other than US President Donald Trump. In his tweet, Donald Trump has accused Pakistan of lies and deceit in spite of receiving billions of dollars in American aid. He tweeted, "The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies and deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help.

No more!" No doubt, this has mounted huge diplomatic pressure on Pakistan, which has been time and again guilty of sponsoring global terrorists like Hafiz Saeed which have created havoc in Kashmir, Afghanistan, and other countries. Already a rumor is going in top diplomatic circles in US that they are going to withhold $255 million aid to Pakistan.

India has time and again called for stricter action against Pakistan but this is for the first time that a US President has directly referred to Pakistan as a state which sponsors global terrorists year after year, decade after decade. This interesting development in the beginning of the year has already created discussions in the diplomatic quarter and it remains to be seen how does Pakistan answer to such serious accusation.
