IPL: Australia coach Sridharan Sriram, Shankar Basu Join Royal Challengers Bangalore's Coaching Staff
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have roped in Australia's coach Sridharan Sriram, Adam Griffith and Shankar Basu to their coaching staff for the upcoming season of the T20 league. The franchise had already announced the exits of Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra last month. Kirsten was replaced by Simon Katich as head coach. Mike Hesson, former New Zealand coach, was roped in as Team Director.
Nehra has been replaced by Griffith, the Tasmania-born pacer who played for Australia A. In total, he played 50 first-class and 54 List A matches.
Sriram has been roped in as batting and spin bowling coach. He had parted ways with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) prior to IPL 2019to join Kings XI Punjab. After one season, he left KXIP at the same time when Hesson left the franchise.
Sriram has a healthy experience of working with Delhi franchise and has been serving as a long time coach of Austalia. He was also a part of the backroom staff of the Australian team that retained Ashes in England, recently.
Shankar Basu, the former team India trainer, is back in the RCB fold as well. He was with the RCB even before joining team India and it is a comeback for one of the best trainers in India.

Basu, along with team India's former physiotherapist Patrick Farhat, had already decided not to renew his contract after World Cup 2019. Farhat has already joined Delhi Capitals.
There was no Sanjay Bangar in RCB's coaching staff. A report a few days back had suggested that the former India batting coach might join Virat Kohli-led team after being replaced at the national team but that hasn't happened.
The new coaching staff of RCB will have the challenge to lift up the performances of the team. In IPL 2019, RCB finished at the last position in the points table with just five wins out of 14 matches - losing first six games on the trot.
RCB are yet to win an IPL trophy. They had last played an IPL final in the year 2016, where they lost to David Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad.
