The United States is stepping up engagement with Venezuela, as a senior energy official prepares to visit the country for talks with industry leaders and government representatives.
Jarrod Agen, director of the U.S. National Energy Dominance Council, is set to travel to Venezuela on Thursday, the White House said.
During the visit, Agen will meet energy and mining executives as well as Venezuelan officials, with discussions expected to centre on investment opportunities and expanding cooperation in key sectors.
White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said the two countries are working to restore ties.
'The United States and Venezuela are restoring our partnership, rebuilding economic ties, and facilitating unprecedented investments that will benefit both the American and Venezuelan people,' Rogers said.
According to earlier reports, U.S. officials are expected to announce agreements that could pave the way for oil and mining companies to operate in Venezuela.
The move signals a broader shift towards economic cooperation, particularly in Venezuela's energy sector, which holds some of the world's largest oil reserves.
The visit comes amid efforts by Washington to secure energy supplies and expand overseas investments, as global markets remain volatile following recent geopolitical tensions.
Renewed engagement with Venezuela could open the door for increased production and investment, marking a significant development in U.S. energy strategy.
