Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Sunday (5 July) inaugurated the state's first cable-stayed flyover in an urban area at Bhat Crossroads, opening the Rs 175 crore structure to traffic along the busy Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad corridor.
The 1.48 km flyover has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 175 crore through a joint initiative of the Roads and Buildings Department and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), with both agencies sharing the project expenditure equally.
The new bridge is designed to streamline movement at the heavily congested Bhat junction, where traffic from the Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad Airport Road intersects with the SP Ring Road.
Under the new traffic arrangement, vehicles travelling along the SP Ring Road will pass beneath the flyover, while traffic moving between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will use the elevated structure.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for widening the existing bridge across the Narmada Main Canal between Koba Circle and Bhat Circle.
The Rs 48 crore project will add two new three-lane bridges alongside the existing structure, expanding the crossing from six lanes to twelve lanes to accommodate rising traffic demand.
Authorities estimate that more than 1.93 lakh vehicles use the Gandhinagar-Koba-Airport Road and SP Ring Road every day.
