The flight crew reported a navigational system malfunction at approximately 9:18 PM local time whilst roughly 155 nautical miles from Karachi, and controllers provided navigational guidance, but three minutes later at 9:21 PM, radar showed the aircraft executing a rapid descent and significant heading change.

The final received data point was recorded at 16:21 UTC, when the aircraft was at 1,100 feet above mean sea level with a reported vertical rate of minus 22,400 feet per minute.

Subsequent radar and radio contact were lost, and preliminary automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast data obtained by flight tracking service Flightradar24 suggested a possible crash location in the Arabian Sea southwest of Karachi.

Authorities have not confirmed a crash site or located wreckage. Pakistan's Rescue Coordination Centre has activated a multi-agency search involving military and civilian assets, with the Pakistan Navy diverting the frigate PNS Zulfiqar toward the last known area, whilst a Navy ATR aircraft, Pakistan Air Force assets, and a Pakistan National Shipping Corporation vessel have also joined the search.

The missing aircraft was identified as AP-BOI, a Boeing 737-4M0(BDSF) freighter operated by Karachi-based K2 Airways.

The craft began service with K2 Airways in 2024, having originally flown as a passenger aircraft with Aeroflot in 1999, then with Garuda Indonesia in 2004, before being converted to a freighter in 2012 and operated by TNT Airways, then ASL Airlines. K2 Airways is a private cargo airline based in Karachi and was established in May 2018.
