The Delhi Transport Corporation has initiated a detailed public survey to better understand how residents travel across the city, as part of efforts to overhaul and streamline its bus network.
The initiative wants to capture end-to-end travel behaviour, from departure at home to the final destination and return journeys.
Commuters are being asked to provide insights into their daily travel patterns, including preferred modes of transport, timing of trips, and types of passes used.
The survey also invites feedback on improving bus services, offering passengers an opportunity to highlight key concerns and suggest changes.
The exercise is part of an ongoing route rationalisation survey that the transport department is carrying out, according to few news reports.
In addition to travel habits, the survey collects information on household vehicle ownership, asking respondents to indicate how many bicycles, two-wheelers, or cars they possess.
A dedicated section focuses on trip-specific details such as departure and arrival times, as well as combinations of transport modes used during journeys.
Participants are also asked about the types of travel passes they use, ranging from the Pink Saheli Smart Card to student and senior citizen passes, along with basic demographic details.
The survey further probes issues faced during bus travel, including distance to the nearest stop, frequency of buses, reliability, and safety concerns onboard.
The exercise forms part of a broader route rationalisation plan announced earlier this year by Transport Minister Pankaj Singh.
At present, Delhi's bus fleet comprises around 6,300 vehicles, including a growing number of electric buses, as older CNG buses are gradually phased out.
The study is being conducted with technical support from IIT Delhi and the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation.
