A Rs 1,471.1 crore elevated road project along south Delhi's Mehrauli-Badarpur Road has received administrative approval by Delhi PWD.
The project will see the construction of a 12 km integrated transit corridor aimed at easing chronic traffic bottlenecks along the busy stretch.
The project will feature a six-lane elevated roadway supported by a series of underpasses, designed to ease chronic bottlenecks and streamline traffic movement between Saket's G Block and Pul Prahladpur.
Planners have aligned the corridor with infrastructure being developed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, allowing both road and metro systems to coexist efficiently along the same route.
The corridor runs through some of south Delhi's most densely populated neighbourhoods, including Mehrauli, Saket, Khanpur, Tughlaqabad, and Pul Prahladpur. It also serves as a key connector linking the capital with neighbouring NCR cities such as Gurgaon and Faridabad.
Despite its strategic importance, MB Road has long struggled with traffic snarls due to high vehicle volumes and mixed land use along the corridor.
Under the revised execution plan, the metro corporation will take charge of designing and constructing the elevated corridor across two segments.
The first section will run from Saket G Block to Sangam Vihar, while the second will extend from Maa Anandmayee Marg to Pul Prahladpur.
Authorities have decided to hand over the entire elevated road component to DMRC on a deposit-work basis, replacing an earlier arrangement that divided responsibilities between agencies.
Officials noted that about 60 per cent of preliminary work has already been completed under the earlier framework, giving the project a substantial head start.
