The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has partnered with Airtel Payments Bank to introduce co-branded RuPay 'On-The-Go' National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC).
The announcement was made during an event at the DMRC headquarters attended by senior officials from both organisations, including DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar and Airtel Payments Bank MD and CEO Anubrata Biswas.
The newly launched cards are designed to function as open-loop mobility payment instruments, allowing commuters to use a single card for metro services, buses and other transit systems across multiple cities.
Unlike the existing DMRC smart cards, which are restricted to the Delhi Metro network, the new NCMC-enabled cards are intended to support interoperable travel nationwide under the Centre's broader 'One Nation, One Card' initiative.
According to DMRC, the cards will begin rolling out across all metro stations in Delhi over the next 10 days.
Passengers will also be able to recharge them digitally through the DMRC and Airtel mobile applications, reducing dependence on physical ticket counters and long recharge queues at stations.
The initiative is expected to strengthen integration between urban mobility systems and digital banking infrastructure while improving convenience for daily commuters.
Officials said the partnership represents another step towards creating a unified and technology-driven public transport ecosystem in India's major cities.
Biswas stated that the collaboration reflected a shared commitment towards modernising urban mobility through secure digital payment systems. Existing DMRC-issued cards, however, will continue to remain operational alongside the new NCMC platform.
