The announcement comes two years after India branded him a terrorist.

Brar is being pursued for his alleged role in the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, a target of Operation Hard Ball, a cross-border effort against organised crime.

Originally from Faridkot in Punjab and formally named Satinderjeet Singh, Brar had earlier settled in Canada after travelling there on a student visa in 2017. Indian authorities want him for multiple murders, including that of singer Sidhu Moosewala, gunned down in Mansa district on 29 May 2022.

The FBI believes Brar now operates from the US and heads the group across North America. The agency said a federal arrest warrant was issued for him on 1 July 2026, in a Los Angeles court after he was charged with racketeering conspiracy, extortion-related offences, and drug distribution charges.

The FBI stated he is linked to Sacramento and Fresno in California, along with Canada, India and Mexico. It added that the gang is allegedly responsible for a range of violent activities, describing them as including "assassinations of political and religious figures, shootings, murders, kidnappings, extortions, assaults, and the trafficking of narcotics and weapons."

An Indian intelligence dossier connects Brar to Babbar Khalsa International, a banned terror outfit. It noted he was "involved in multiple killings and professes a radical ideology," and made threatening calls to nationalist leaders while demanding ransom.

Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against him. Brar had earlier admitted responsibility for Moosewala's killing, posting on Facebook: "Sachin Bishnoi Dhattaranwali, Lawrence Bishnoi, and I are behind the killing of Sidhu Moosewala."
