Ghaziabad Seeks DPR For 16 Km Metro Link From Vaishali To Gokulpuri Via Hindon Airport

Ghaziabad Seeks DPR For 16 Km Metro Link From Vaishali To Gokulpuri Via Hindon Airport

The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has asked Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare a detailed project report for a proposed 16 km metro corridor connecting Vaishali to Gokulpuri through Hindon Civil Terminal, according to a report by Times of India .

The new line would begin at Vaishali, the current terminal station of the Blue Line, and run towards Gokulpuri in north-east Delhi.

Along the route, it is expected to serve key localities including Sahibabad, Mohan Nagar, Pasunda, Hindon Civil Terminal and Gagan Vihar, with around seven stations likely to be planned.

Officials said the project builds on DMRC's wider Phase V expansion proposals for Delhi-NCR.

"In July last year, DMRC proposed 18 metro extension projects in Delhi-NCR under phase 5 of the metro extension plan, three of which were in Ghaziabad. In keeping with this, we have asked DMRC to prepare DPR for the Vaishali-Gokulpuri corridor. We expect submission in a couple of months," a GDA official was quoted as saying in the report.

An earlier concept under DMRC's Phase V framework had proposed a shorter 12-13 km route from Gokulpuri on the Pink Line to Arthala on the Red Line via Hindon Civil Terminal.

GDA has now sought an extended alignment reaching Vaishali to improve access for residents of Indirapuram, Vasundhara and Vaishali, where population growth has increased pressure on road networks.

Hindon Civil Terminal currently lacks direct metro access, with the nearest stations located around five km away at Dilshad Garden and Major Mohit Sharma Rajendra Nagar.

Although Sahibabad RRTS station offers faster regional travel, most passengers still depend on taxis and auto-rickshaws for last-mile connectivity.

Two additional metro proposals are also under consideration in Ghaziabad: a three km Red Line extension from Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda to Ghaziabad railway station, and the long-delayed five km Noida Electronic City-Sahibabad link.

Together, the three corridors could add around 25 km to the metro network at an estimated cost of Rs 7,500 crore.
