The planned inauguration of several major transport and infrastructure projects in Mumbai, including the first operational stretch of Mumbai Metro Line 9, has been postponed from its originally scheduled date of 3 April.

Reports indicate that new dates for the ceremonies are likely to be announced soon, with the events now tentatively expected to take place on 5 or 6 April.

It is said that the delay was prompted by scheduling conflicts involving senior political leaders who were expected to attend the programmes.

Several of them are currently engaged in political meetings across states such as Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, which led to the decision to defer the events.

Among the key projects awaiting formal launch is the first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 9, covering a 4.5 km stretch between Dahisar East and Kashigaon.

The section has already completed trial runs and received the necessary safety clearances. Once operational, it will connect commuters from the Mira Road area to Gundavli through seamless interchange with Mumbai Metro Line 7.

The first phase of the corridor includes four stations-Dahisar (East), Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon and Kashigaon.

Alongside the metro opening, the event was also expected to mark the inauguration of the Golden Nest flyover and the foundation ceremony for the Rs 1,016 crore BKC Pod Taxi Project planned for Bandra Kurla Complex.

Additionally, authorities were preparing to launch tunnel-boring machines for the ambitious Thane-Borivali Tunnel, an 11.8 km twin tunnel designed to cut travel time between the two locations to about 15 minutes.

Officials emphasised that the projects themselves are ready for inauguration and that only the revised schedule for the ceremonies remains to be finalised.
