The Odisha Cabinet has approved a Rs 949.35 crore infrastructure project to transform the heavily congested Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road into a high-capacity urban corridor.
The project covers the 9.5 km stretch between Kalinga Stadium Gate No. 4 and Raghunathpur Bridge, which will be upgraded into an eight-lane corridor designed to improve traffic flow between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The Works Department has already accorded administrative approval, paving the way for construction to begin.
Planned as a critical mobility corridor, the upgraded route will connect major residential areas, educational institutions, commercial districts and business centres while addressing the city's rapidly growing transport requirements.
A series of grade-separated junctions will be developed to minimise delays at key intersections.
The project includes the construction of flyovers at Jaydev Vihar, Kalinga Hospital Square, Damana Square and KIIT Square, alongside improvements at Kalarahanga Junction.
It will also feature service roads, slip roads, upgraded drainage infrastructure, a minor bridge, roundabouts, pedestrian subways and dedicated facilities for safer non-motorised movement.
To enhance commuter convenience, the corridor will be equipped with underground parking, modern street lighting, traffic management systems, parking bays, road signage, landscaping and urban beautification measures.
Avenue plantations will be maintained for a decade as part of the project's environmental component.
The state government expects the corridor to substantially reduce congestion, shorten travel time towards Baranga and Cuttack.
The Cabinet has awarded the turnkey construction contract to M/s Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Pvt. Ltd., whose Rs 579 crore bid, excluding GST, emerged as the lowest.
The project has been scheduled for completion within 24 months and includes a 10-year defect liability and maintenance period to ensure long-term quality and operational reliability.
