Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Metropolitan Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary conducted an on-site inspection of the proposed Bhugaon bypass road on Wednesday (22 April), reviewing progress alongside officials from multiple departments.

The road is being developed to ease traffic congestion along the busy Pune-Kolad Highway (Paud Road), with land acquisition handled by PMRDA and construction to be carried out by the National Highways Authority of India.

During the visit, officials also interacted with local residents to address concerns linked to land and project delays, assuring that pending issues would be resolved quickly.

The Bhugaon bypass is part of a broader district-wide drive initiated by PMRDA to revive delayed infrastructure projects in key congestion zones such as Wagholi, Shikrapur, Chakan and Lohgaon.

Authorities indicated that land acquisition hurdles in Bhugaon are close to resolution, with work orders expected soon.

In parallel news, a 30-metre-wide parallel road is also in the pipeline in Wagholi to divert traffic from the Pune-Ahilyanagar highway, while additional regional road links are proposed to improve connectivity across industrial and residential clusters.

Beyond infrastructure, PMRDA has also intensified action against traffic violations and environmental concerns. Strict enforcement measures are being introduced to curb unsafe movement of heavy vehicles, regulate construction-related dust pollution and ensure compliance by builders.

To strengthen monitoring, the authority plans to fund CCTV installations across its jurisdiction, enabling better coordination with enforcement agencies.
