The Uttar Pradesh government has set its sights on building a brand new city in Hathras district, modelled on the lines of Noida and Gurugram.
Dubbed "New Hathras," the ambitious project falls under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and is expected to reshape western UP's economic landscape, the News24reported.
The proposed city will span 358 villages in Hathras, with the government looking to acquire around 4,000 hectares of land in total.
However, development will begin in phases, with the first stage covering roughly 2,000 to 4,000 hectares.
This phased approach is meant to allow proper planning of infrastructure and civic services before further expansion.
A private consulting firm has been roped in to prepare the master plan for the project. The process will kick off with a detailed survey and inception report that will determine the city's layout, land use zones, and overall development strategy.
The blueprint will include provisions for transport networks, water supply, healthcare and education facilities, and IT infrastructure.
A key selling point of the project is its direct link to Noida via the Yamuna Expressway, which officials believe will make the new city an attractive destination for industries and investors.
The government expects the project to draw large-scale industrial investment, especially in manufacturing and logistics, generating significant employment for local residents and neighbouring districts.
Farmers in the region are reportedly upbeat about the development, anticipating substantial compensation for land acquisition. Property values in the area are also expected to climb as the project progresses.
New Hathras will become the fifth major urban centre under YEIDA's expanding corridor. While no official completion date has been announced, the project is likely to be fully developed by 2041.
