The Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway has registered its best-ever financial performance, clocking a gross revenue of Rs 5,907.20 crore in the 2025-26 fiscal year, The New Indian Express reported .
Passenger earnings alone touched Rs 1,523.90 crore, marking a growth of 9.93 per cent, with 74.191 million passengers using the division's services during the period.
Divisional Railway Manager Mohit Sonakiya said the division set a new record in freight loading at 40.631 million tonnes, beating the earlier high of 38.347 million tonnes.
Freight revenue came in at Rs 4,166 crore, even as concessional rates were extended to the power sector. Earnings from ticket checking also hit a record Rs 76.34 crore, while train punctuality improved to 86.74 per cent.
On the infrastructure side, the division commissioned 152.54 km of Automatic Block Signalling and added 50.051 km of third line to expand network capacity.
Speeds of up to 110 kmph were achieved on key sections, and work on the advanced 2x25 kV traction system, designed to support operations at 160 kmph, is progressing steadily.
Significant yard remodelling was completed at Tenali and Mustabada stations.
Passenger amenities also received a boost. The division installed 10 lifts and four escalators, built foot over bridges at eight stations and closed 31 level crossings to improve safety.
To handle peak season rush, 5,207 special trains were pressed into service over the course of the year.
In a notable first for Indian Railways, the division's Traction Department earned ISO 9001:2015 certification, recognising its quality management standards.
The figures underline a strong year for the Vijayawada division across freight operations, passenger services and infrastructure upgrades, reinforcing its position as one of the high-performing divisions within the South Central Railway zone.
