Tech Desk: Apple is reportedly gearing up to introduce a significant upgrade to its laptop lineup with the much-anticipated MacBook Ultra OLED, potentially launching by the end of this year.
This marks a pivotal moment as it would be Apple’s first laptop to feature an OLED screen, moving beyond its current Mini-LED technology.
According to a new report from research firm Omdia, the premium MacBook Ultra could arrive in two sizes: 14.3-inch and 16.3-inch. Samsung Display is slated to supply these advanced OLED panels starting July 2026. While the panel supply timeline seems distant, the launch is rumored for the third quarter of this year, possibly alongside the new iPhone series in September.
The innovation lies in Apple’s adoption of hybrid OLED technology, combining oxide TFT and RGB tandem OLED. This advanced display promises not only thinner and lighter laptops but also reduced power consumption, freeing up valuable internal space for batteries and other components. It represents a substantial leap in display quality and efficiency for Apple’s portable computers.
Omdia predicts that this new MacBook series will significantly boost revenue in the notebook OLED display market by 2026, heralding a new era for Apple’s laptop business. Although Apple has yet to officially confirm the existence of the MacBook Ultra, these reports suggest a premium device that could revolutionize the tech world, possibly even featuring touchscreen support.
