Hyderabad: The Heritage department, along with the Narayanpet district administration, initiated measures to protect and conserve the Mudumala Megalithic site with menhir structures, which has been included in the UNESCO tentative list.
The sites 1 and 2 have evidence related to the Ursa Major constellation, forming an integral part of megalithic heritage in the State.
A joint survey was conducted on Friday by Heritage department director Prof. K Arjun Rao, along with Narayanpet district administration and Deccan Heritage Academy chairman Vedakumar Manikonda, to demarcate boundaries and complete fencing work on the site.
During the visit, the district collector was asked to re-demarcate the boundaries in connection with the installation of fencing.
As for the proposal to permit laying of power grid transmission lines passing through the Mudumala site from Karnataka into Narayanpet district, the expert committee constituted by district collector instructed that its directions and procedures must be strictly followed.
