Andhra Pradesh IT, Electronics, and Education Minister Nara Lokesh met AirTrunk CEO Robin Khuda in Mumbai and urged the global hyperscale data center company to establish its future campus in Visakhapatnam.
The meeting comes as Andhra Pradesh intensifies efforts to position Visakhapatnam as one of India's leading AI and hyperscale data center destinations.
During the discussions, Lokesh highlighted Visakhapatnam's growing reputation as an emerging AI and data infrastructure hub. He noted that several major projects, including Google's AI initiatives, Reliance AI Data Center, and AdaniConneX developments, are already progressing in the city. According to the minister, the state aims to create a massive 6-gigawatt data center ecosystem in Visakhapatnam, supported by advanced AI infrastructure, strong connectivity, and a rapidly developing technology ecosystem.
Lokesh emphasized that Visakhapatnam offers strategic advantages unmatched by many other locations in India, including robust connectivity, infrastructure readiness, and access to renewable energy projects that can meet the large-scale power requirements of hyperscale data centers. He invited AirTrunk to explore investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh and become part of the state's long-term digital infrastructure vision.
The meeting also focused on strengthening engagement with AirTrunk as the company expands its footprint in India. Discussions covered AI-driven hyperscale infrastructure, future investment plans, and the potential role of Andhra Pradesh as a preferred destination for global data center development.
Robin Khuda shared updates on AirTrunk's India strategy, including the integration of Lumina CloudInfra, the Blackstone-backed data center platform acquired by the company. He also discussed AirTrunk's planned investments, expansion roadmap, and the growing requirements of hyperscale customers in the Indian market. Khuda assured the minister that the company would examine Andhra Pradesh's proposals as part of its future expansion plans.
The engagement between Lokesh and Khuda dates back to October last year, when the minister met the AirTrunk chief during his visit to Australia. Since then, AirTrunk representatives have held multiple discussions with Andhra Pradesh officials regarding potential opportunities in the state. The company officially entered the Indian market in April 2026 and currently has projects planned in Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad, with a pipeline capacity of around 600 MW.
As part of its broader Asia-Pacific strategy, AirTrunk has identified India as a key growth market. Andhra Pradesh is now aiming to leverage that expansion momentum by positioning Visakhapatnam as a preferred destination for the next generation of AI and hyperscale data center investments.
