Dubai, June 3: An Indian national was killed in an attack targeting Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, prompting the Indian Embassy in Kuwait to express condolences and assure assistance to those affected.

In a statement posted on social media, the embassy conveyed its "deepest condolences at the tragic demise of an Indian national due to an attack on the airport in Kuwait today."

The mission said it is closely coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to provide all possible support to the bereaved family and those injured in the incident.

According to Kuwaiti officials, air traffic at Kuwait International Airport was suspended after strikes hit Terminal One, causing casualties and damage to airport infrastructure.

The country's Directorate General of Civil Aviation spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi, quoted by state-run KUNA news agency, said the attack affected airport operations and led to the temporary suspension of flights.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Brig. Gen. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi said "a number of hostile drones" targeted the airport's passenger terminal, severely damaging parts of the building and injuring several individuals.

The airport had only recently resumed operations after an earlier closure linked to the ongoing regional conflict.

The US military said Iran fired two missiles towards Kuwait, which fell apart before reaching their target, and added that multiple drones aimed at American forces in the country had been intercepted.

The airport attack comes amid heightened tensions across West Asia, with regional security concerns escalating due to the broader conflict involving Iran and its allies.

Meanwhile, conflicting reports emerged over diplomatic efforts to ease tensions. Iran's Fars and Tasnim news agencies reported that Iranian negotiators had halted communication with ceasefire mediators as fighting intensified in Lebanon, where the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement remains engaged in hostilities with Israel.

However, former US President Donald Trump dismissed reports of a breakdown in talks, calling them "false and erroneous."

"The conversations between us have been going on continuously," Trump said in a social media post, adding that discussions had continued in recent days despite reports suggesting otherwise.

Authorities in Kuwait continue to assess the extent of the damage at the airport, while investigations into the attack are underway.
