GUWAHATI, July 2: Young Indians (Yi), an initiative of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in association with the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), on Wednesday announced the Young Indians Parliament (YiP) 2026, which will be held on July 3 and 4, at the Assam Legislative Assembly in Guwahati.
The Guwahati edition will bring together 165 plus students from across 33 districts of Assam for two days of parliamentary simulations and interactive sessions within the prestigious premises of the Assam Legislative Assembly. Each district conducted a debate competition to select two students. These 66 students will compete with 100 private school students from across Assam on July 3 and 4 in the Guwahati Chapter Round.
Organised by Yi Guwahati Chapter, the programme forms part of Young Indians' nationwide effort to encourage civic responsibility, constitutional awareness and active participation among young citizens. Recognised as Yi's flagship youth engagement initiative, Young Indians Parliament provides students of Classes IX to XII with a unique opportunity to understand the functioning of India's parliamentary system through an immersive learning experience.
Describing the programme, Mehul Pasari, Event Chair, YIP, Yi Guwahati Chapter, said, "During the two-day programme, participants will assume the roles of Members of Parliament, ministers, opposition leaders and committee members while taking part in the Question Hour, policy debates, legislative drafting, committee deliberations and other parliamentary proceedings. The initiative is designed to help students develop critical thinking, public speaking, collaboration, leadership and informed decision-making while strengthening their understanding of governance and democratic institutions."
Briefing on their association, RC Jain, Chairman, Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), added, "Young Indians Parliament is a valuable platform that helps students understand the importance of democracy and responsible citizenship through practical learning. We are happy to partner with Young Indians in providing this enriching experience to students from across Assam."
The inaugural ceremony on July 3 will be attended by the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, as the chief guest. The closing and award ceremony on July 4 will be attended by the Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, who will felicitate outstanding delegates for excellence in debate, legislative drafting, public speaking and overall parliamentary performance.
