Indian woman Dr. Manali Desai appointed as chairman in the department of Cambridge University
London. Dr Manali Desai, a teacher at Newham College, University of Cambridge, has become the first woman of Indian origin to hold the post of Chairperson of the Department of Sociology in the university's eight hundred years of history. Desai is a reader in the Department of Comparative and Historical Sociology and is a Fellow of Newham College.
He took over as the chairman of the department this month. He received his PhD in Sociology from the University of California. She has done research in many India-centric subjects including social movements, racial and gender based violence etc.
