Google has released new AI features in Google Translate such as more alternatives for the sentences and helpful overviews.

Google has announced new Gemini-backed AI features in Google Translate.

The new AI features in Google Translate are "designed to help you nail the tone of any conversation - from informal hangouts to professional meetings - when it matters most," as per Google.

With one of the new AI features in Google Translate, users now get more helpful alternatives, thanks to Gemini's rich multilingual capabilities. The company says the feature comes in handy when translating idioms and more colloquial phrases. "So if you're looking for more options to convey a phrase like "It's raining cats and dogs," you'll see clear tips on when and why to use different expressions so you pinpoint the right phrasing for your conversation," said Google.

There's also helpful overviews powered by Gemini to help understand the nuances behind the options. "To explore the nuances behind each option, tap "understand" for a helpful overview, or "ask" to follow up with questions about your specific scenario - like ways of saying something in a particular country or dialect," said Google.

Users can try out this new experience today in the U.S. and India on the Translate app in Android and iOS. The new AI features in Google Translate are also coming soon to the web.

Meanwhile, Google recently announced the ability to offload multi-step tasks directly to Gemini for a select few smartphone models in a couple of countries. The Gemini App automation feature saves your time by completing tasks in the background, "leaving you free to keep using your phone."

Gemini app automation will be launching soon as a beta feature in the Gemini app for Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the newly announced Samsung Galaxy S26 series. The beta will be available initially in the U.S. and Korea.
