Samsung Galaxy Buds On Clip-on Earbuds Announced

Samsung Galaxy Buds On have been announced by the company as its first clip-on earbuds. Here's what they offer.

Samsung has announced its first-ever clip-on earbuds in Korea, dubbed Galaxy Buds On.

The buds have already leaked before in images but we now have official details about it, including its specifications and its pricing in the region. Here's everything to know about it.

Samsung will first introduce the Galaxy Buds On in Korea on October 27 in a single black shade, priced at KRW 2,99,000 (approx Rs 21,100). It is scheduled to be released sequentially in global markets thereafter as per the company.

Unlike the company's in-ear Galaxy Buds, the new Galaxy Buds On sits on the ear without blocking the ear canal, making it apt for outdoor activities where users may want to stay aware of their surroundings.

The clip-on design is also intended to make the earbuds more comfortable during extended use. Samsung says it studied data from different ear shapes and used simulations to optimise the placement of the speakers and battery. The earbuds have a wider contact area to distribute pressure more evenly, while the Band elasticity has also been tuned to keep them in place during movement.

Users can control key functions such as music playback and calls with a light touch on the rear of the earbuds. Samsung has also worked on the audio performance to address some of the limitations associated with an open, non-blocking design.

The Galaxy Buds On feature TwinBoost speakers designed to improve low-frequency output, along with automatic volume control that adjusts the volume based on the surrounding environment. They also introduce Audio Leakage Reduction technology, which Samsung says is being used for the first time in the Galaxy Buds On to reduce sound leakage. This could be useful when using the earbuds in places such as cafes and libraries.

Under the hood, the earbuds use Qualcomm's Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform along with a high-efficiency Class-D amplifier. Samsung claims the Galaxy Buds On can deliver up to 9.5 hours of continuous music playback on a single charge.

For calls, the earbuds use Samsung's Intelligent Clear Call technology. The setup includes three microphones and a bone-conduction-based Voice Pickup Unit sensor that detects vibrations produced when the user speaks. A machine-learning-based system then works to separate the user's voice from surrounding noise, with Samsung highlighting scenarios such as strong winds outdoors and vacuum cleaner noise indoors.

The Galaxy Buds On also bring several hands-free features when paired with a Galaxy smartphone or tablet that supports Galaxy AI. Users can access voice conversations, memos and notifications without having to reach for their phone.

For example, saying "Hey Google, let's talk live" while wearing the earbuds launches Gemini Live, allowing users to have a conversational interaction with Google's AI assistant and perform tasks using voice commands.

The earbuds also support Quick Voice Memo which can be activated through a long press on the touch area at the back of the earbud. Once activated, it will start recording a voice memo, and the recorded clips can then later be searched through Bixby. Quick Voice Memo requires a Galaxy AI-supported device, along with Samsung's Voice Recorder and Bixby apps, and the long-press action needs to be configured separately in Settings.

Another hands-free feature is Head Gestures, which lets users interact with certain functions through head movements. Users can answer or end calls, dismiss alarms and read message notifications by nodding or shaking their head in supported situations.

Galaxy Buds On support quick pairing with Galaxy phones and tablets. Opening the charging case allows the earbuds to connect to compatible Galaxy devices, while volume and equaliser settings can be adjusted through the phone's settings and Quick Panel without requiring a separate Galaxy Wearable app.
