Follow social distancing and lockdown guidelines seriously: All Assam Students Union
GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students Union) has appealed to the masses of the State to seriously follow the guidelines issued by the WHO (World Health Organization), the Central and the State governments against coronavirus especially during the 21-day lockdown period.
Stating that 'the lockdown period is crucial for all', AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi while addressing the media here on Thursday added, 'The people of Assam must remain indoors within their houses and thus save themselves and others as well. 'Unfortunately, it has been noticed that some people have not yet taken the lockdown seriously. In some villages, people are still resorting to gatherings for unnecessary reasons. The masses must exercise restraint at this crucial juncture because a single break in social-distancing will create chaos.'
Pointing out that 'it is indeed a good sign that till date not a single COVID-19 positive case has been diagnosed in Assam', the student leader stated, 'The COVID chain will get broken only if the people follow social distancing.'
The AASU leader further appealed to the State government 'to ensure that there is no scarcity of essential items and also to bail out the worst-affected section of the society — the daily wage-earners, during the lockdown period.'
Making another appeal, Gogoi said, 'We appeal to the AASU members and also the entire student community to launch awareness campaigns through the social media from their respective homes during this lockdown period against COVID-19. Further, they can contact the district administration and inform them of any person who might be facing any problem during the 21-day lockdown period.'
