Guwahati's Nature-Themed Terminal 2 Commences Full Commercial Operations

The Sentinel 1 hr ago

The newly constructed Terminal 2 at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) has successfully transitioned into full commercial operations.

The state-of-the-art facility, constructed at a cost of ₹4,000 crore, boosts the airport's annual handling capacity to 13.1 million passengers.

Following its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the terminal entered commercial service after a meticulous operational readiness validation process. All major domestic carriers have shifted operations to the new hub, and international flight operations fully transitioned to Terminal 2, welcoming global arrivals with a traditional Assamese welcome.

Dubbed the "Bamboo Orchids," the nature-themed architecture integrates 140 metric tonnes of locally sourced Northeast bamboo and an indoor "Sky Forest" holding nearly 100,000 indigenous plants. The terminal's highly distinct cultural design recently earned it global recognition on the prestigious 2026 Prix Versailles list for the world's most beautiful airports
