JAMUGURIHAT: One Puja Neog (23 years), a resident of Madhupur village, Borpukhuripar, died of drowning in a pond located in the backyard of her house.
According to information, Puja along with some of the family members went to the pond to get relief from the scorching spell of heat. But she went into the deep part of the pond and could not come out. The others realized the imminent danger and made a hue and cry. Immediately, some of the villagers jumped into the pond, recovered the girl and rushed her to the North Jamuguri BPHC but she was declared dead. The untimely demise of the young girl cast a pall of gloom in the area.
