The IMD has placed several districts in Gujarat under a Red Alert due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall between July 30 and August 2. While light to moderate rain is expected across much of the state until August 5, the most intense spell is likely during the next few days. For July 31, Narmada district is expected to receive exceptionally heavy rainfall. Extremely heavy rain has also been forecast for Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. In the Saurashtra region, Bhavnagar and Botad remain under a Red Alert, while Surendranagar, Rajkot and Amreli have been placed under an Orange Alert for very heavy rainfall. Looking ahead to August 1, Ahmedabad and Anand are expected to continue under Red Alert. The IMD has also predicted very heavy rainfall in Patan, Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Bharuch, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Botad and Kutch, with several other districts likely to receive heavy showers.

According to IMD Gujarat Director A.K. Das, the current weather pattern is being driven by several active meteorological systems occurring simultaneously. These include a deep depression over central India, an active monsoon trough, an east-west shear zone, a western disturbance, and an offshore trough stretching from the Gujarat coast to the North Kerala coast. Das stated that the deep depression is likely to weaken into a depression within the next 12 hours while moving westward across Chhattisgarh before advancing toward Vidarbha and adjoining parts of Madhya Pradesh. The combined impact of these systems is expected to enhance rainfall activity across Gujarat over the next week.

Besides downpours, the IMD has issued alerts for thunderstorms and gusty winds in Gujarat in the next four days. Coastal regions are about to feel the south-westerly winds of 40 - 50 kmph and gusty winds of 70 kmph on July 30 and July 31. The IMD has barred fishermen from heading out into the Arabian Sea, given the stormy weather. Their areas would experience similar weather conditions on August 1 and August 2.
