Elon Musk had a strange and not so expected hiring post for engineers recently. SpaceX is hiring developers for a project called "SpaceXAI" that does not require prior AI experience, according to the tech giant.
This has stirred conversations amongst the tech and engineering community. Speaking on X, Musk says SpaceX is looking for "smart humans" that can "figure it out fast," a move that sparked a flurry of discussion across social media and AI communities.
Musk requested interested candidates email him three bullet points that provide "evidence of exceptional ability." The call to action went viral, leading people to point out that Musk is looking to hire based on skill rather than a traditional resume or previous AI experience.
Is SpaceX really shifting towards AI-driven systems?
The hiring drive comes in the middle of SpaceX deploying increasingly AI based solutions in rocket systems, spaceship work and Starlink satellite internet services. Reports on Crypto Briefing have suggested that SpaceX has been building AI focused engineering teams that tackle large data problems critical to launch and space systems.
Here's his tweet
While "SpaceXAI" does not appear as a division on the company's careers page, the move is seen as part of a larger AI strategy spanning xAI, Tesla and X. Analysts say the move is yet another example of Musk rolling out AI driven solutions across his business portfolio.
Why is this hiring approach different?
Unlike conventional processes, applicants are not expected to provide lengthy resumes and standard application forms. Instead Musk is honing in on letters of proof of achievements, inventions, and tackling complex problems.
SpaceX was "basically no AI" said Musk once, but a recent industry report shows a rapid change as aerospace companies are increasingly deploying AI in autonomous systems, predictive maintenance, and simulations, the areas SpaceX is now expanding.
