BCCI Naman Awards 2026 Blunder: Board Deletes Video After Naming Shubman Gill as Champions Trophy 2025 Winning Captain Instead of Rohit Sharma

With the BCCI organizing the Naman Awards 2026 in the national capital of Delhi, a major blunder has surfaced as Shubman Gill was given the title of the winning captain of ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As a result, the apex body of cricket in India has come massively under the scanner for this blunder.

But the board has deleted the video from X.

Shubman Gill was a member of Team India's Champions Trophy 2025 win

Gill was a pivotal member of Team India's Champions Trophy 2025-winning squad as they remained undefeated to clinch their third title. The Punjab-born cricketer had scored 188 runs in five matches, including a gritty 101* against Bangladesh during a tough run-chase in Dubai. However, it was Gill's opening partner Rohit Sharma, who was the winning captain as the Men in Blue defeated New Zealand in the tournament-decider.

Here's how the netizens have reacted to the blunder from BCCI:

Shubman Gill and Smriti Mandhana win top awards

While Shubman Gill won the Polly Umrigar Award for the best international cricketer, Mandhana was adjudged asBest International Cricketer in women's cricket. Gill finished 2025 as the leading run-getter in Test cricket, accumulating 983 runs in nine matches, averaging a mighty 70.21 alongside five hundreds. If not for the injury during the home series against South Africa, the Punjab-born cricketer would have crossed a tally of 1000 runs. Out of the 983 runs last year, 754 of them came during the tour of England, headlined by a career-best of 269 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Meanwhile, Mandhana was India's highest run-getter during their historic run to lifting the 50-over World Cup for the first time, aggregating 571 runs in nine innings at 71.37. The left-hander peeled off one hundred and two fifties in the tournament. Additionally, Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to Roger Binny, Rahul Dravid, and Mithali Raj to acknowledge their legacies and contribution to sport in India.
