Breaking: Naseem Shah in Deep Trouble! PCB Slaps PKR 2 Crore Fine Over Maryam Nawaz Tweet, PSL 2026 Controversy Explodes

In a massive development amid the ongoing edition of the 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Pakistan and Rawalpindi Pindiz speedster Naseem Shah has been fined PKR 2 crore over his controversial tweet against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) found that the 23-year-old has breached various clauses of the central contract, causing them to fine him with a hefty amount.

What was the tweet from Naseem Shah's X account amid PSL 2026?

During the opening night of PSL, Nawaz had graced the occasion at the venue. The event saw PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi introduce her to the eight franchise owners, with Nawaz wishing them good luck. It was then that the tweet emerged from Naseem's account that said "Why is she being treat like the queen at Lords?" but it was deleted five minutes later. However, the tweet triggered widespread engagement among fans of all kinds even before its deletion.

A few moments later, he wrote, 'This account of Naseem was recently hacked but now recovered successfully', adding further fuel to the controversy. But the PCB has still served him a show-cause notice on March 27th, 2026, seeking a response for the tweet.

The board revealed that there was a personal hearing that took place on March 30, 2026 as three-member disciplinary committee sat for it. While Naseem was revealed to have apologised unconditionally, the breaching of his central contract meant the youngster had to cop a huge fine. Additionally, Naseem’s social media advisor has been terminated and the PCB will blacklist the personality from getting associated with any player in the future.

How did Naseem Shah perform in his first PSL match?

Meanwhile, Naseem was part of Rawalpindi Pindiz but they lost to Peshawar Zalmi despite amassing 214/4 in their stipulated 20 overs. While the 23-year-old bowled well in his first two overs, the wheels came off at the death to finish with shoddy figures of 4-0-51-0.

Pindiz will next face the Karachi Kings on April 2, Thursday in Lahore.
