CSK vs GT, IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans have registered their fourth win of IPL 2026 to return to winning ways after comprehensive back-to-back losses to the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Having beaten five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chepauk, it is worth exploring when the Titans last beat the Super Kings in their backyard.
CSK vs GT, IPL 2026: Have the Gujarat Titans beaten the Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk?
While the Titans with their eight-wicket on Sunday win now hold a 5-4 lead in the head-to-head stats against the Super Kings, it is the first time they have emerged at the Chepauk. The 2022 edition saw the Titans beat the Yellow Army twice but one of those fixtures came in Pune. On what was a tricky pitch to bat on, the Super Kings couldn't find momentum in the first ten innings, losing four wickets and managing only 43 runs. The partnership of 59 between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube was arguably their best one as it proved to be the bedrock of a competitive total of 158 in 20 overs. Gaikwad's maiden fifty resulting in his return to form has been the biggest plus for the five-time champions. Kartik (15) and Jamie Overton (18) also chipped in with crucial cameos.
The Titans’ openers Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan stitched a supreme 50-over stand to put their side in a decent position. After Gill perished for 33, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler played in a sedate manner for a few overs before again teeing off. Although Sai Sudharsan perished for 87 with four runs to win, Buttler finished off the game with a flourish, clobbering a six straight down the ground.
CSK vs GT, IPL 2026: What did Ruturaj Gaikwad say after Chennai Super Kings’ fifth defeat?
At the post-game presentation, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who played an unbeaten knock of 74, admitted that the pitch was incredibly hard to play freely in the first innings, stating:
“Sometimes I hate to assess, it this way but it was challenging in the first innings. It was holding for the medium pacers and the bounce was up and down. We lost too many wickets but it was difficult to play some shots. Not expected. It is hard to assess how it plays. This game we didn’t have any idea. By the time, we wanted to adapt it was too late. At the first timeout, when Flem came out I told him, I am trying to attack but it was tough. There was more bounce, or less bounce, and I told him I am trying to change. It just did not come good.”
The Super Kings will next face the Mumbai Indians on Saturday at home.
