Sameer Rizvi rose to the occasion again as the Delhi Capitals sank Mumbai Indians in a tricky run-chase of 163 on April 4, Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, thereby registering their second win in as many games in IPL 2026. The right-handed batter, who hit 72* against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), hammered 90 as Mumbai Indians’ all-round bowling attack was methodically neutralised with six wickets to spare.
Mumbai Indians start strongly but slow pitch limits their strokeplay
Both Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton started their innings with boundaries, with the latter disappearing first. Rohit played some sumptuous shots and manoeuvred the exceptionally well but could not carry on to make a big score. Rohit Sharma survived a DRS call off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling but was eventually dismissed by Capitals skipper Axar Patel for 35. Suryakumar Yadav was responsible for holding the innings together and reached a 35-ball fifty before falling to Lungi Ngidi for 51.
Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner and Corbin Bosch hit some quick runs towards the end to lift the five-time champions to 162/6 in 20 overs, setting the home side a competitive target.
KL Rahul and Nitish Rana fall cheaply again
Mumbai Indians’ new-ball bowlers Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah created havoc early by sending KL Rahul (1) and Nitish Rana (0) packing cheaply. At 7/2, Rizvi was left with another massive repair job to do. But it was Pathum Nissanka taking his chances, playing some cracking shots to trigger a momentum shift. After Nissanka’s 29-ball 44, Rizvi converted his knock into third gear but also taking calculated chances to ensure that the Capitals stay ahead or near the required run-rate.
At one stage, the 52-run stand between Rizvi and David Miller, saw the latter contributing only one run. By the time Corbin Bosch dismissed Rizvi for 90, he had seven sixes and as many boundaries to limit the required runs for the Capitals to only 12. David Miller and Tristan Stubbs needed only 18.1 overs to trounce the five-time champions.
