CSK vs MI, IPL 2026: Explosive opener Rohit Sharma missing yet another IPL 2026 match for the Mumbai Indians has only raised more questions than answers.
Having now missed five consecutive matches now, a social media account has now made a stunning but unverified that Rohit is currently featuring in his final IPL season and will announce his retirement after the 2026 edition.
CSK vs MI, IPL 2026: Will Rohit Sharma not play any other match for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing edition?
A social media account has claimed that the Mumbai Indians are not preferring to bring in the former skipper despite being fit and is set to be released by the franchise ahead of IPL 2027. Additionally, the account stated that Rohit's loyalty means he will retire from the IPL instead of playing for any franchise other than the Mumbai Indians
Rohit's inclusion was indeed the big question for the Mumbai Indians, who risk missing the playoff spot if they do not return to winning ways at the Chepauk on Saturday. While Mumbai Indians' top-order woes seem to have been sorted with the presence of Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks, Rohit's presence will be an added advantage, given the 39-year-old's tactical acumen. The explosive opener hasn't played since walking off with a hamstring injury against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium when he was on 19 off 13 balls. Since then, Rohit has gone on to miss four matches and Mumbai Indians have won only one out of them. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya remained coy on Rohit's inclusion at the toss.
Nevertheless, there is no official update about Rohit getting ruled out of IPL 2026 or retirement.
CSK vs MI, IPL 2026: What happened the last time the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings met?
One of the most storied rivalries in IPL history, the Super Kings and Mumbai Indians had met earlier in the tournament at the Wankhede Stadium. On the back of Sanju Samson's second hundred for the Super Kings on a tricky surface, the Yellow Army amassed 207. The five-time champions followed it up with a penetrative bowling performance to bundle the home side out for 104 to win by 103 runs.
With both Chennai and Mumbai coming on the back of defeats, it will be interesting to see which team rises on Saturday.
