In a major move to bring football closer to fans everywhere, FIFA World Cup 2026 has partnered with YouTube to stream matches live globally.
The partnership is being called a "game-changing" step, especially aimed at attracting younger audiences. Under the agreement, broadcasters will be able to show the first 10 minutes of matches on YouTube, and some games may even be streamed in full on official YouTube channels.
FIFA said this approach will encourage younger fans to engage with the World Cup while also directing them to traditional TV broadcasts for full coverage.
"FIFA is delighted to welcome YouTube as a Preferred Platform for the FIFA World Cup 2026. By spotlighting FIFA's premium content and unlocking new opportunities for Media Partners and creators, this agreement will engage global fans in ways never seen before," said FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom.
YouTube To Feature FIFA World Cup's Past Iconic Moments
The partnership also opens up FIFA's extensive World Cup archive on YouTube, featuring highlights from past tournaments, full-length classic matches, and some of the most iconic moments in football history.
In 2022, YouTube mainly served as a behind-the-scenes platform for fans. This time, the platform will offer unprecedented access through a global network of creators, giving fans unique content and interactive experiences around the tournament.
"YouTube is focused on delivering a global, fan-centric, interactive approach to sports entertainment, and we are proud to be a preferred platform for the FIFA World Cup 2026. By providing official media partners and creators with premium content and unparalleled access, we're delivering a comprehensive experience for fans and partners alike," said Justin Connolly, VP and Global Head of Media & Sports.
"Whether you're a hardcore or a casual fan, this partnership will help usher in the next generation of fans while showcasing that no other platform unites the world around major moments like YouTube," he added.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. For the first time, a record 48 teams will compete in a 104-match tournament, up from the previous 32-team format.
