India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, is set to make history with the launch of its first flex-fuel motorcycle on June 3. The launch event will take place in the presence of Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Hardeep Singh Puri.
This will be a huge step in pushing India’s automotive landscape towards cleaner and more sustainable fuel alternatives.
The introduction of a flex-fuel motorcycle is not just another product launch, but it represents Hero MotoCorp's entry into a rapidly evolving mobility ecosystem, which is primarily focused on reducing carbon emissions and decreasing dependence on conventional fossil fuels.
What Makes Flex-Fuel Technology a Game Changer?
Flex-fuel vehicles are equipped with specially engineered internal combustion engines. These engines are capable of running on petrol, ethanol, or a combination of both. They can operate using higher ethanol blends, including E85 fuel, a high-level ethanol blend consisting of up to 85% ethanol and 15% petrol.
India currently promotes E20 fuel compatibility, but policymakers envision a future where vehicles can efficiently run on even higher ethanol blends. This transition is expected to support domestic agriculture, reduce crude oil imports, and, most importantly, it contributes to the country’s environmental goals.
Hero MotoCorp Flex Fuel Bike to Launch: Splendor or HF Deluxe?
The company has not revealed the official model name, and the industry report suggests that the company may introduce a flex-fuel version of either the highly successful Splendor or the HF Deluxe.
The speculation gained momentum after Hero showcased an HF Deluxe-based flex-fuel prototype at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Given the immense popularity of these commuter motorcycles, a flex-fuel variant could help in quickly bringing alternative-fuel technology to the masses.
Growing Competition in India's Flex-Fuel Vehicle Market
Hero MotoCorp's entry comes at a time when the flex-fuel segment is beginning to gain traction. Currently, Suzuki Motorcycle India offers the Gixxer SF 250 flex-fuel motorcycle, while Honda previously experimented with the CB300F flex-fuel model before discontinuing it.
The momentum is also spreading to the passenger vehicle segment. Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch its first flex-fuel car on World Environment Day, with the WagonR emerging as the likely candidate.
As major manufacturers embrace ethanol-powered mobility, Hero MotoCorp's latest move could become a catalyst for wider adoption, accelerating India's journey toward a cleaner and more energy-secure future.
